A pop-up says to call a number
Real warnings from Microsoft or Apple do not ask you to phone anyone. Close the browser and do not call.
Pop-ups saying your computer is infected, a phone call from someone claiming to be from your bank, an email you are not sure about. We will check the computer and help you feel safe using it again.
Scams are more convincing than they used to be. A fake support call sounds professional, a fake bank message looks right and a pop-up can lock a browser in a way that feels very serious. People who fall for them are not careless. The tricks are designed to work.
If you have clicked, called or allowed someone remote access to your computer, the sensible next step is to stop using it for anything sensitive and give us a ring. We can check whether anything has been installed, clean it up and talk through what else needs attention.
Some things are not on the computer. Banking, email and identity matters need to be handled with the relevant organisation, and we will say so honestly. For the device side, our virus and malware removal service covers the clean-up.

A real bank or company will not ask you to log in to a link in a text, read out a code you just received or install software so they can fix something. If a call asks for any of those, hang up and ring the number on your card or bill.
Be wary of anything urgent. Scammers want you to act before you think. A genuine problem can wait five minutes while you check.
If you are not sure, ring us. We would much rather you ask than guess.
