First, find the real bottleneck

Is It the Internet Connection—or Your WiFi?

“The internet is slow” can describe several different problems. The connection supplied to the property may be offline or underperforming. The modem or router may be misconfigured. WiFi may be strong near the router but weak in a bedroom, study or outdoor area. Sometimes only one older device is struggling.

Those problems need different fixes. Buying a faster plan will not solve poor router placement, and adding a range extender will not repair an inactive service. An onsite visit lets us test close to the router, check the problem area and look at how the property, equipment and devices work together.

Microsys can then recommend the smallest sensible change: configure what you already own, reposition equipment where practical, improve security settings, connect selected devices, or quote a suitable mesh WiFi system when broader coverage is genuinely needed.

Common reasons to book

Home Internet & WiFi Problems We Can Investigate

Tell us where the problem happens, which devices are affected and what has already been tried. That gives the visit a useful starting point.

New modem or router setup

Once your provider has activated the service, we can connect and configure compatible equipment, name the WiFi network and confirm that selected devices can get online.

Dead spots and weak rooms

If performance changes as you move through the house, we assess router location, distance, walls and interference before recommending extra hardware.

Slow or inconsistent performance

We compare performance in useful locations and consider the router, WiFi conditions and device. Provider-side congestion or line faults may need escalation to your ISP.

Mesh WiFi planning and setup

For larger or difficult layouts, we can assess where mesh units may be useful, configure a suitable system and test the areas you identified as important.

Devices that will not connect

We can help connect selected compatible computers, phones, tablets, printers, smart TVs and consoles. Mention the device list when booking so the scope is clear.

Old passwords and unclear access

We can change the WiFi name and password, review available security settings and create a guest network when the equipment supports one.

Tell us where your WiFi stops working well

A useful booking description includes your suburb, provider, router model, problem rooms and the devices affected.

Router placement and settings

Improve placement where practical and review relevant wireless settings before adding equipment.

Selected device connections

Connect compatible household devices included in the booking and confirm basic network access.

Slow WiFi troubleshooting

Separate coverage or device issues from a broader internet-service problem where possible.

Provider changeover assistance

Configure compatible equipment after activation and identify faults that need to go back to the provider.

A practical onsite process

How Our Perth WiFi Setup Works

We diagnose before recommending equipment, and we test the locations you actually need to use.

1

Describe the problem

Tell us the property type, provider, equipment, problem locations and important devices so we can discuss scope and pricing.

2

Check the current setup

Onsite, we review the connection path, router position and performance in the areas where the problem occurs.

3

Agree on the improvement

We explain whether configuration, placement, new equipment or provider involvement is the sensible next step.

4

Configure and verify

We complete the agreed work, test the target areas and show you the network details or controls you need to know.

Why WiFi varies around a home

What Can Affect Your WiFi Performance?

The plan speed is only one part of the picture. Home layout, equipment and the device in your hand can all change the result.

Router position

A router hidden in a cabinet or placed at one end of the home may struggle to reach the areas where WiFi is used most.

Walls and floor levels

Distance, double brick, concrete, metal and multiple storeys can reduce signal or make one access point impractical.

Neighbouring networks

Busy wireless environments can contribute to interference and inconsistent performance, particularly in denser areas.

Older equipment

An ageing router may lack the capacity, security options or wireless features needed for a busy modern household.

The individual device

An older phone, computer or smart device may perform differently from newer equipment on the same network.

The internet service itself

Outages, provider configuration and line problems sit outside the home WiFi network and may require your ISP to resolve them.

Router, Extender or Mesh WiFi?

A different router may help when the current unit is outdated, unreliable or poorly suited to the connection. Repositioning the existing router may be enough when the main problem is where it was installed. A WiFi extender can be useful in limited situations, but it is not automatically the best answer for a larger property.

Mesh WiFi uses multiple coordinated units to extend wireless coverage. It can suit multi-storey homes, long layouts and rooms separated by difficult building materials. Placement still matters: a mesh unit needs a useful connection back to the rest of the system, and adding more units does not automatically make the internet service faster.

Where cabling is available or can be arranged separately, a wired access point may provide a stronger foundation for a demanding office or media area. Microsys will explain which approach fits the observed problem and quote any recommended equipment before it is supplied.

Clear responsibilities

What Microsys Can Fix—and When to Call Your Provider

A useful diagnosis includes knowing where the responsibility changes between your home network and the company supplying the internet service.

Microsys works on the equipment and WiFi environment within your home: modem or router configuration, network names and passwords, placement, mesh WiFi, guest access and selected device connections. We can test and document what we observe so you have clearer information if the issue must be escalated.

Your provider remains responsible for activating the internet service, account or plan changes and faults on its side of the connection. If the service is not active, or testing points to an outage or line problem, the provider may need to complete the repair.

Before a visit, confirm that the provider says the service is active and keep the provider-supplied equipment, power adapters and login details available. If you already own a router or mesh system, share the model number so compatibility can be considered.

For more preparation and troubleshooting guidance, see nbn's official information on how to optimise your internet setup. Microsys can then help with the practical onsite work inside your Perth home.

Good to know

WiFi Setup Perth FAQs

Useful answers about pricing, mesh WiFi, provider responsibilities and what to prepare before an onsite visit.

Microsys onsite WiFi setup is $120 + GST per hour, billed in 30-minute increments. Routers, mesh WiFi units and other equipment are quoted separately. The likely scope and any equipment costs should be discussed before installation.
Your internet service is the connection supplied to the property, while WiFi carries that connection wirelessly around the home. If a wired device is also slow or offline, the service or modem may be involved. If the problem changes from room to room, WiFi coverage, interference or placement is more likely.
Your chosen internet provider must activate the service. Once it is active and the required connection equipment is available, Microsys can help connect and configure a compatible modem or router, set up WiFi and connect selected devices. Provider or line faults may still need to be handled by the provider.
Microsys can assess weak areas and recommend an appropriate improvement. Depending on the home, that might involve better router placement, configuration changes, a wired access point or a mesh WiFi system. Results depend on the building, equipment, interference and available cabling.
It depends on the size and layout of the property, wall materials, router location and where reliable coverage is needed. A well-positioned router may be enough for a smaller home. Larger, multi-storey or difficult layouts may benefit from mesh WiFi or wired access points.
Not always. A faster plan can improve the connection coming into the home, but it will not fix poor router placement, weak coverage, interference or an older device. Testing near the router and in the problem area helps separate plan speed from WiFi performance.
Microsys can connect selected compatible devices such as computers, phones, tablets, printers, smart TVs and game consoles. Please mention the number and type of devices when booking so the likely time and any limitations can be discussed.
If you are unsure, it is usually better to discuss the property and problem first. Equipment should suit the internet connection, home layout, device needs and budget. Microsys can assess the setup and quote suitable equipment separately where required.
